Class letter to the Bishop:
Dear Bishop Cunningham,
As a Confirmation class, we are anxious about being confirmed. We are looking forward to your arrival as we are approaching the end of our childhood journey. As we recall our earliest memories of our religious education, we can see how far our class has come. We have grown from small children, to young adults consciously aware of the Catholic values and their abundance with ourselves. Our class has continuously served the community, growing in our faith. Looking at the Catholic values, such as having respect for all humans and creation, standing for justice, sharing love, compassion, and forgiveness, acting with honesty and integrity, and serving others,all individuals in our class have excelled in these virtues. Our class is now ready to be confirmed, to take the next step in our faith, and strengthen our relationship with God and each other.
During our catholic journey, we have had the privilege of being involved in many faith building service projects. Most recent was the annual chicken BBQ that included certain services such as mopping, dish-washing, and waiting on tables. This event was meant to bring together the community to fellowship with one another.
Throughout the years that we have been involved in religion classes, we have had many youth masses. As participants in the mass, we each had the opportunity to learn about the different ministries in church liturgy, and understand better how and why the Catholic Church works.
Our final project that we believe had the most impact on us and those we served was working on the meals for Karing Kitchen. This project opened our eyes to the troubles other less fortunate families endure. These service projects, plus numerous others have opened new doors and allowed us to grow in our Catholic Christian values. They have benefited us more than just allowing us to reach our service hours, but instead have made an everlasting impact on our hearts.
How has our faith come to be this strong? Our parents have steered us in the right direction and helped us along the way. Teachers have volunteered their time to help us on our journey to become the people of faith we are today. Peers have helped us on retreats and provided a good example of Catholic youth. By sharing their example and wisdom, our sponsors have showed us the characteristics an adult Catholic should demonstrate.
Our request to be confirmed is not one to be taken lightly. Our service, character, and our growth in faith have all been a huge part of our religious journey. The journey, however, does not end with Confirmation, but rather it just begins another chapter. As it says in 1Timothy 4:12, "Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe; in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity." We are ready to be the example of Catholic youth.
